Citrus uses around the house
- Add orange or grapefruit peels to white vinegar for a fragrant, natural, all-purpose household cleaner.
- Remove tarnish on brass, copper and stainless steel with a paste of lemon juice and salt. Coat the affected area, leave it on for 5 minutes, wash in warm water, rinse and polish dry.
- Polish copper and chrome by rubbing it with a lemon juice soaked cloth and buffing it dry.
- For a natural furniture polish, combine 1 part lemon or grapefruit juice with 2 parts olive oil or jojoba oil.
- To repel fleas and roaches, add the juice of 4 lemons along with the peels to 2 liters of water and wash your floors with it.
- Use dried citrus peel as a firestarter. Thanks to its high oil content, dried citrus peel makes great kindling. Best of all, the burning citrus works as a subtle air freshener and removes unpleasant smoky smells.
