TANGERINES

SELECTION

A ripe tangerine is firm to slightly soft, heavy for its size and pebbly-skinned with no deep grooves. Make sure the skin is mostly blemish-free, and doesn’t have soft spots, cuts or mould.

STORAGE

After purchasing, rinse them off under cold water and dry completely. At room temperature they’ll keep for up to 5 days, and for up to 2 weeks if refrigerated.

GETTING
VALUE

The tangerine is absolutely the most perfect fruit to eat out of hand whenever you have a hankering for something super sweet – involving no mess or stickiness whatsoever.
The fresh fruit is also used in salads and desserts, while tangerine juice may be used in noodles, pastas, chicken and fish dishes.
When baking cupcakes, add tangerine juice for an amazing flavour. The peel can also be dried and used in Sichuan cuisine.
Tangerines help your body to absorb iron from food, and aid healing of minor cuts and wounds.

INTERESTING
FACTS

The oil extracted from the skin is a signature ingredient in several orange liquers.

Tangerines were once known as “Christmas oranges” because they used to be stuffed in childrens’ christmas stockings.
